What is a home ignition zone for a private residence that is located Napa or Sonoma County? It is a cleared space zone of 10 feet from any exterior point of a private home. It is very beneficial to take some time during a morning period of a day each year, to see if there is any flammable material on your property that could be ignited by a little ember.
At Wildfire Design & Build, we have highlighted a few tips from the City of Santa Rosa Fire Department to improve your property condition from wildfire devastation.
A few highlighted tips that we would like to mention to home owners to keep their property in a home ignition free zone.
- Keep your roof and roof gutters free of debris that maybe flammable.
- Remove dry grass, brush, leaves, fallen needles, bark and tree branches with-in the 10 foot home ignition zone of your home.
- Use well maintained watered grass and vegetation only in the zone area.
- Use fine metal screen mesh to cover eaves, roof and foundation vents. This will prevent windblown embers to enter these spaces.
- Inspect and clean your chimney every year.
- Most importantly, if possible, replace wood shingle roofs with Class-A roofing materials, such as asphalt shingles, tile or metal roofing material.
